Creating a blog is a rite of passage into the world of self-publishing. It's a brilliant marketing tactic in that it allows you to connect with customers and prospects with only an investment of your time, or the time of someone to whom you delegate the task. Make sure you maximize this investment by including the four must-haves of a blog.
Catchy title. If you want readers, you've got to grab their attention. Creating a title is complicated by the need to be mindful of search engine optimization (SEO). Keywords in your title are sure to boost SEO rankings, necessitating the need to be straight-forward in your choice of words.
Value to your readers. People are time-starved and have literally thousands of items competing for their attention thrown at them every waking moment. You need to provide something of value to them that makes it worth their time investment to read what you have to say! Provide information that will help them through their day, help them make a decision on a dilemma they're facing, or will help them avoid potential obstacles.
Keywords. Check out popular search terms for your industry topic and inject a healthy dose of those keywords into your blog's narrative. Google Trends is a great resource to discover what's trending in search terms, and it's free!
Call-to-action. While it's great for you to offer valuable insight, tips, and tricks about your industry to readers, you ultimately would like to turn them into paying customers, right?! Make sure you guide readers at the end of your posts to contact you for more information or for assistance, or in the case of a retailer, where to buy your fabulous product! No need to go in for a hard sell, just open an invitation to call or contact you!
