Generating quality referrals
May 7, 2014
The best prospects are prospects who have been pre-qualified and delivered to your feet in the form of a referral. I don't know of any small business owners who go into business because they can't wait to start cold-calling. For many, this is the least desirable part of running a business. But having qualified leads at your disposal can be a reality when you lay the groundwork to receive them.
The following tips will help develop leads that will translate to sales.
Do the unexpected for your existing customers. Generating word of mouth is the simplest way to generate referrals. Go above and beyond and your customers will talk. Generate enough talk and it will fall upon the ears of someone looking for your products or services.
Capture email addresses from browsers on your site. Is someone seeking detailed information about your widgets? Before feeding them more information, capture their contact information on a landing page. Then follow up with them to find out what they liked best about your widgets.
Review email reports to see who is interested in your topics. People who are clicking through are prime prospects for the product or service you are writing about. Follow up with either a phone call or an email to offer more information or set up a consultation.
Make it easy to share. Include Refer-a-Friend forms on your web site. Also. include Forward buttons in emails and encourage people to share your social posts.
Join a networking referral group. Locally, there are two BNI chapters that are referral generating machines. Members are industry-exclusive and are always listening for referral opportunities for each other.
There is power in numbers. The more people you have spreading the word about you, the more referrals you'll receive!
