Sometimes, there's nothing more daunting than trying to come up with something clever to say in your Facebook status. You sit there for a few minutes, realize nothing's coming to you, and think "I'll come back to it later." Later comes, still no inspiration. Days go by. Realizing that saying something is better than saying nothing, you post a lame comment about the weather.
It happens to the best of us. Here are some sources of inspiration that can help you get the ball rolling:
Latch on to weird holidays. Do a search on the Internet for strange holiday calendars and you'll be amazed at all the weird designations that are celebrated. For example, there's National Chocolate Covered Anything Day, National Dress Up Your Pet Day, and even Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. Your post could say "Happy Tweed Day" and you could post a picture of yourself in your favorite tweed jacket! (Or not.)
Steal someone else's idea. Paste a link to a relevant article from your favorite news feed or trade site. Pinterest is a great resource for post ideas too.
Write about what's trending in your industry at the moment. Promote your seasonal products or services and let people know how they're lives will be made simpler with them. (Keep in mind, you need to have a mix of social posts and promotional posts. Too many promotional posts will turn fans away!)
Conduct a poll. Ask a random question (i.e. do you call it "soda" or "pop") or ask something pertaining to your industry.
Promote your events. Let people know about your events and invite them to attend. Talk up the different highlights they have to look forward to.
The important thing to remember is that the purpose of Facebook is social. You are there to open a dialogue with your fans. Keep it light-hearted and fun and avoid too many sales pitches. For more ideas for status updates for your business, contact Re:think Marketing.
