"I'm so busy now, I couldn't possibly take on anything more." This is every business owners dream, and when we're in it, it's easy to loose sight of the overall picture and realize that the boom is likely just that: a short blip in the overall scheme of things that could fade if not carefully maintained. It's easy to say, "I don't need marketing right now."
Obviously, this isn't the time to run a sale with steep discounts to drive in additional traffic. However, it's still important to stay in front of your customers and maintain top of mind awareness. The following are great maintenance tactics to keep you fresh in the minds of customers and prospects.
• E-marketing. Whether it's a newsletter or a simple promotional email, this is a great way to stay in touch with your customers. When business is booming, skip the coupons and opt for educational tips and tricks. This positions you as an expert in your field.
• Surveys. When business is busy and it's hard to keep track of whether you are coming or going, customer satisfaction levels can slip. Keep a pulse on satisfaction levels with surveys and monitor responses carefully. If you royally mess up with a client, be sure to make it up by going above and beyond their expectations. It also helps if you can sincerely explain your heavy workload is the cause of your mistake and this quality of work isn't typical.
• Superb customer care. Give your customers a little something unexpected to thank them for their business.
• Social media. Keep the communication flowing! Let them know the latest developments, new projects, new products, etc. Also, be prompt in responding to their feedback and input as well.
Of course, this is all easier said than done when business is booming! The best time to prepare marketing maintenance is during the slow times. That will be the topic of next week's blog: marketing when business is slow.
