One of my favorite aspects of what I do is branding. I love delving into the "why" behind the business and what the business stands for and what they want to be for their clients. Sometimes, however, the answers aren't clear to the business owner. What makes their furniture store different is the "customer service." They just treat their customers "better."
Well, that's what every business owner thinks! If you didn't think you could do it better, you probably wouldn't have taken the leap into business ownership. Defining exactly what makes your service better and how you are different is part of your brand story.
The CEO or the owner of a company is the leader and the visionary for the company. He or she projects the mission and vision for the company. A good CEO communicates this vision daily to employees. Employees play an important role in communicating and projecting your company's brand. If the CEO is unclear about the direction of the business, or is ineffective at communicating the vision to the employees, the employees will fill in the gaps and create their own version of the brand story. This is why it is essential that business leaders are clear about their vision and communicate exactly what their vision is.
But what if the business leader is unclear about their vision?
Rethink Marketing can help you work through this and find clarity. Everyone has traits and characteristics that draw others to them. Business leaders usually have a sense for what those are, but sometimes need someone else to point those out for them. Once those traits are exposed, the brand story begins.
Likewise, we all have weaknesses, things that don't come easily for us and we really have to work at. When we identify those, we determine if the weakness is a critical asset to have in the business and if so, we look to add a team member who holds the weakness as their strength. A team member doesn't have to mean adding someone to the payroll; it can mean outsourcing certain aspects of your business, too.
