First quarter is behind us! So how did you do on accomplishing your goals? Are you on track?
Personally, I did not hit my numbers. While I can make many excuses as to why, the bottom line is I didn't hit them. So it's time to re-evaluate and readjust.
Here's the check-point process I follow and recommend for anyone who is serious about achieving their goals.
1. Celebrate accomplishments. Regardless of whether you achieved your goals or not, you've at minimum taken steps toward achieving them (I hope!). While life events prevented me from making the sales calls I had anticipated, I did use my downtime after gallbladder surgery to lay a foundation for what I can offer clients and built a stronger product offering. It's important to focus on what was accomplished rather than what wasn't to maintain a positive can-do attitude to carry you through to the end. We're only a quarter of the way through the year!
2. Re-evaluate your end goal. If you're knocking it out of the park, perhaps you have set your goal too low. If you're way off base, review your accomplishments and determine if ground can be made up in the coming months. Personally, even though I'm pretty far off, I'm keeping my numbers as I set them because I feel pretty good about the ground work I have laid and I feel I'll be able to spend more time devoted to sales now that I have completed that foundation. Remember, it's important to stretch yourself!
3. Check your passion level. If you're not happy with the strides you've made toward your goal, re-evaluate why it's important to you. I have found that when I haven't made significant progress toward a goal, it's usually because the work involved is not in alignment with my passion. We put off what we don't find enjoyable. We can usually push through if the end result is desirable enough, but if the reward isn't great enough, it will make it that much harder to push through. Make sure you really want to reap the result of achieving your goals.
If you find that you are still frustrated with your progress after this check point, it may be just a matter of putting better systems in place to ensure you are on-track. You may need to set more mini-goals to work toward your big goals. Our Map to Success VIP Day could be just the thing you need to put you on track. Learn more about this opportunity!
