I remember being in fifth grade and aspiring to be the first woman president of the United States. Not because I wanted to be president... I just wanted to be a powerful woman. Fast forward three decades and who would believe that not only has there not been a woman elected to the president's office, but we're still not earning the same as a man in the same job.
April 11 marked Equal Pay Day for women. Why April 11? That's how far into 2016 we had to work beyond year end 2015 to earn the same amount as a man. Hmm.
But ladies, the blame does not lay on men! The power is within us to earn our worth. The problem is we undervalue our worth and don't ask for what we deserve.
We've all got mental blocks we carry. We may fall into the trap of comparisons and feel what we have to offer isn't of value. Or maybe we feel our needs aren't as urgent or dire as someone else's and we don't need something as much as someone else. Perhaps we feel financial details are too confusing and if we just ignore it, somehow things will work themselves out.
Are any of these things resonating with you? I know I can see myself in all of these scenarios at one point of my life or another.
