It's the start of a new year, you've set your goals and you've been working diligently toward them. Hooray for you!
Did you know there is actually a national day designated for quitting your new year resolutions? Yep. This Sunday, the 17th, is National Ditch New Year's Resolutions Day. Ouch. But this doesn't have to be your story!
Make 2016 the year of achievement. Assuming your goals are SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound), there are three essential elements to have in place to begin your journey toward goal attainment: desire, a plan, and accountability.
Desire. You have to want this. If you are going to maintain momentum for an extended period of time to achieve it, you've got to want it. You need to want it bad enough to make some sacrifices to get it. Define your why. If you are working toward a revenue goal, why? What are you going to do with the extra money? Take the kids on a vacation to Disney? Buy a new house? If your goal is to serve more people, why? Are you working toward a vision of a better community? A world of no pain and suffering? Attach desire to your goals and you're more likely to attain them.
A plan. Every big goal needs a big plan. How are you going to get from point A to point B? Break down your goal into mini goals. Break your mini goals into action steps. Set deadlines. Plot it out on a calendar and get it done.
Accountability. Use your calendar to hold you accountable. If you said you were going to have 30 new clients three months in, check in and make sure that happened. If not, adjust your action steps to gain more clients than anticipated to make up for what didn't happen. An accountability partner is also important in accountability to goal progression. Find someone who is as goal-oriented as you and meet weekly to check in. When you tell someone you are going to do something, you feel obligated to uphold your word and maintain your integrity.
When you combine desire, a plan, and accountability into your goals, you'll be well on your way toward achievement. Arguably, the most daunting part is creating the plan. That's why I've created a special VIP Day to help you through this. Together we'll create a plan to map out step by step what needs to be done in order to achieve your goals.
